I took a train to town, then a taxi to the base of the Golden Gate Bridge. From there, I started my solo walk to Ft. Baker to join the others.
It felt good to first walk over the Golden Gate Bridge by myself.
It looked like a lot of people were on their way to the city on this early Wednesday morn.
ASL Walk (walkers, volunteers, and organizers) at the start of the 30-day walk from Ft. Baker, Sausalito (SF) to LA May 1, 2013.
We met in this large lawn area at Ft. Baker.
And we're off . . . !
We started out UNDER the Golden Gate Bridge.
Ryan recorded interviews occasionally during the walk. Visit FB and look up Facundo Element to see these posts!
My eyes are always watching for sail boats. : )
Sharon and Ken - she's who told me about the walk after I met her last December on Kaua'i.
Here I am with my walking buddy for the day, Caroline from Quebec.
Ryan's at it again!
Here's a little info on where we were . . .
It's really HARD to not keep photographing the Golden Gate Bridge. There are literally camera magnets installed; I'm sure of it!
Lunch on our first day-we ate out of lettuce leaves.
It was veggie, healthy, and delish. Thanks Rachel and Chris!
Taking a break.
We left the coastal trail and walked past mansions.
Cultivated roses called out to say hello.
Butch stopped to . . . fill in the blank . . . : )
It was nice when we returned to the coastal trail.
The flowers were fragrant as well as eye candy.
Hip and stylish Joette - she's also a GREAT storyteller!
I had visited this beach two days prior with my college buddy, Liz.
Flowers. EVERYWHERE! : )
These guys were checking out the chicks.
We have meetings periodically on the walk to check in and make sure we're all on the same page.
The houses along this strip were fun to look at.
By now we'd spread out. It was a straight shot to . . .
Yahoo!
We made it. Day One checked off the list!
We were fortunate (thanks Sharon!!!! : ) to be able to camp at the San Francisco Zoo. We were given a private tour at night and in the morning.
This guy was all dressed up for carnival. Ready to party anyone?
Joette almost got this peacock to strut this stuff.
We camped close to the bathrooms. : ) Reckon they didn't want us wandering too far in the night when nature called.
Liz was one of my best buds in college and in Kappa; how cool that we were able to share in this experience!!! : )
This guy is said to be 50 pounds heavier than any other lion in the U.S. He definitely knows that HE'S t h e king!
This male tiger has a wife and kid, but they've been separated because he would most likely have his offspring as a midnight snack.
This cracked me up! Read it and see if you agree . . . disembowel . . . or just a little veggies, if you please.
Liz has been growing even stranger and stranger since college.
Move over Santa, Liz is taking over!
They promised us that the animals had died naturally.
These pictures really tell a story!!! Keep them coming!!! ;-)
Thanks Ken! Will do. (Depending on when I get wi-fi AND power. ;-) The group misses you. See you in Santa Monica!
Wait until Santa Monica??? no way!!! I will be coming up to see you all on the 22nd in Pismo Beach and more often afterwards as you walk/march towards my environs… ;-)
Have a good walk!!!
P.S. – Sorry that I didn’t say “Adios” when I left on Thursday evening… :-(
Awesome that we’ll be seeing you again!
No worries about adios-ing. : )
Enjoying a fire right now, and we all (almost) ate smores. Aloha!
Are you saving some s’mores for me??? If not, then I will have to re-consider my volunteering plans… ;-)
Enjoy and here’s continued good luck on the walking!!!
Ken
I think they’d be a little too soggy by the time we got them to you!!! ;-)
enjoyed the pictures & the updates. hope the weather continues to be as great as it appears! Happy walking!
Thanks Hannah! It’s been crazy windy today, so this ended up being a good rest day. We’re camping for a second night tonight at Butano State Park. It’s a forest with a zillion camp sites. Tomorrow we head to a KOA. Aloha, -sj
