Day 9 of ASL Walk – Rest Day!

After walk 82.88-miles over the past 8-days,

it was great to have a day of rest.

First, I headed to the cute little town of Capitola for breakfast. Did I walk? No! Grabbed a ride in one of the support vehicles. (Thanks Ruth and Goonie!)

Next came Santa Cruz . . .

Aloha New Brighton State Beach. Thanks for your clean showers and toilets! : )

And mahalo Cafe Gratitude for the wi-fi and plentiful smiles.

So nice! . . . that it's n o t closed.

Day 9’s been a rest day.

“Ahhhhhhh.”(Yesterday Heidi taught me the sign for “Ahhhhh”. What a great one to learn. She’s been a very patient and tenacious teacher. Mahalo Heidi!)

Good internet connection at Zelda’s on the Beach in Capitola and Cafe Gratitude in downtown Santa Cruz made it possible to upload all these photographs today. : )

Tomorrow we’ll walk 12-miles to Sunset State Beach. Then comes 15-miles on Saturday, 7 on Sunday, and 12 or so on Monday . . . Tuesday next week (the 14th) will be another rest day. Ahhhhhhhhhhh.

Love hearing from you.

Hugs and kisses from Sj

At the start of each walk we picked a  leader and “sweeper” to bring up the rear.

Bucky Surprise. Hiding out in the shade. Chillin' for a v e r y short bit.

Photo highlights from Day 7 – Costanoa KOA to Davenport Roadhouse (13.7 miles : )

We left the most awesome campground in Costanoa

for Davenport, a tiny town along the coast of California.

The owner of the local roadhouse, graciously shared his property for our camp site. Mahalo Davenport Roadhouse!

My totem . . . really good at keeping an eye on things. : ) by sjhl 2013.

Day 6’s walk went unbelievably fast!

It felt like we finished almost immediately after we’d started.

Later, towards the end of the walk, many said that this was their favorite fire side evening. : )

I’d love to hear from you guys. What was your FAVORITE camp site? Fire side setting? Meal? Walk? Etc . . .

Signing off while sitting in a nice cafe in Capitola (Zelda’s on the Beach : ) and resting my dawgs.

Aloha Everyone!!!

Day 5 was a day of rest in Pescadero

Blustery wind arrived

making it a perfect day to hang in a cafe in Pescadero, drink coffee, eat pizza, and just plain rest.

Here area few pixs from the day . . .

After returning to camp, I found a moment to be alone in the quiet . . . every once in a while the wind would arrive to say HELLO in a frenzy gust of coolness.

. . . and that’s all she wrote . . . for now. : )

More to come about Day 5.

California Fence Romance

Photo highlights from Day 4 – Half Moon Bay to Pescadero State Beach (15.8 miles : )

Pescadeo, California.

When you visit the state beach page, you’ll get the idea that there’s ONE beach. That ain’t so! How do I know? We walked to the first one, thought, “Yahoo!” only to find out that we needed to walk to the NEXT one!

This particular day started out fairly sunny. After a brief stint of fog (and a beautiful fog bow : ), the sun shook itself and chased all the fog away. But with that shake came a gradual build up of wind. As it became windier and windier, the number of walkers began to decrease until there were only four of us trudging along California’s Highway 1. By the end, we were bowed over into crescent moons, doing our best to keep the sand and dirt out of our eyes, mouths, noses, and ears. That’s why there aren’t any photos during this phase of the walk.

When we reached that second Pescadero State Beach park, we sighed a powerful group sigh which almost matched the dusty breeze. We were quickly swept into support vehicles and transported to the small town cafe, where we either drank coffee, beer, or wine : )

Next stop and our home for two nights?  Butano State Park.

Here are da pix!

Day 3’s highlight (for me) were the Popsicles at the end!

ASL Walking Team

Photo Highlights from Day 1 of ASL Walk from San Francisco (Sausalito) to Los Angeles (10 miles : )

After several months of back-and-forthing on our private facebook page (what to pack, what we all eat and don’t eat, where to meet, etc. ) the Walk for ASL began!

We gathered at Ft. Baker in Sausalito, California (just over the Golden Gate Bridge from San Francisco).

Below is a slide show of my photos from that day.

Enjoy!

Wild flowers love hanging out at Half Moon Bay, California

It was an interesting walking day.

First came an unexpected nap under an enormous shade tree while we waited for an incredibly delicious veggie meal to arrive (not sure what it was exactly but it was yummy. Chopped bits of this and that served in a lettuce leaf and topped with guacamole and salsa).

Then we walked to the highway where we caught a ride due to construction that made walking simply unsafe. After we meandered through some cool neighborhoods until we somehow found ourselves walking past a small airport. Next we arrived in the cute town just north of Half Moon Bay. There were lots of enticing smells from restaurants full of people enjoying the warm and sunny Friday afternoon. After a short rest, I finished the not-sure-how-long-but somewhere-around-fifteen mile walk with a fellow walker who’d had a tooth pulled that morning due to pain! (and an infection, I imagine).

The last five miles were on a level path that ran parallel to the expansive beach just north of Half Moon Bay. A black bird with orange coloring along its wings kept us company the entire way.

After four Popsicles! (Yum!!! Thanks Caroline!) and a shower, it’s time for din-din. No electricity available (unless I want to hang out at the bathroom, which I don’t!), so it’ll be a rest night. They’re all set up for a camp fire which sounds like the perfect thing to enjoy and give my dogs a rest before another long walk tomorrow.

Signing off with a wave and a kiss.

;-)
